Education and Support for Grief, Loss, and Transition
Loss is universal; yet the way each of us grieves is different. Grief has no rules and no timetable. Pause and learn how to cope with the grief that affects you physically, spiritually, and emotionally. This series offers information that can validate your emotions and help you face one of life’s greatest challenges. Understand the “surprises” of grief. Find out why you are not crazy. In a safe environment, during this six-week series for adults, learn, share feelings, ask questions and find healthy strategies to heal the pain.

Fall Series: Sept. 16, 23, 30 and Oct. 7, 14, 21

If You Really Loved Me, You’d Know Just How to Help Me in My Grief
Invited Speaker: Alicia “Allie” Sims Franklin, LICSW, GMS, DAPA
A Community Seminar for Grieving Families
April 17, 2008, 7-9 p.m.
The Plaza Hotel and Suites, Wausau
Participants will learn how their coping and communication styles affect their grief and can complicate grieving as a family. By learning about these styles, we can break down the barriers of “If you really loved me, you’d know how to help me through this” and create a healing environment within relationships.

Coping with the Tornado Within
April 18, 2008, 9-Noon
The Plaza Hotel and Suites, Wausau
A Professional Seminar for Clergy, Hospice, and Others who Care for the Bereaved. Few people recognize the role anger plays in the grief reaction and often interpret this emotion as a negative response. Many are unaware of the differences between chronic anger and grief-related anger and merely want to “stop the behavior”. Because people may be unaware of the unique aspects of grief-related anger, they may attempt to treat it as chronic anger. When grief-related anger is ignored or inappropriately diagnosed, grief remains unresolved and anger can escalate into violence. Special attention will be focused on the connections between unresolved grief and the increasing violence in our society and how the lack of adequate coping skills and support can lead to escalating violence among our children.
